I saw the above image on the Sports Illustrated website and thought... wow, what an amazing capture.   Then I learn that the photographer wasn't actually there taking this photograph..kind of.

This photo (and many other awesome ones you may have seen) are the result of a whole bevy of DSLRs sitting at a low angle behind the goal.  The key is, they aren't triggered by hand, but by some manner of remote trigger.

Why does this bother me?  I guess it's the thought that this awesome shot is probably the result of some photographer, who I'm sure is good in his own right, sitting meters away with his finger on a remote who then triggers the camera (which is in burst mode) whenever something interesting is happening hoping to get a good shot.

Yes, he had to set up the camera properly with good settings and good line of sight.  Yes, he had to time it perfectly to get this sort of shot.  But yet, it still bothers me that there isn't some dude with his face plastered to the back of this camera firing away as this even unfolds hoping to get a great shot.

Makes it feel less special, almost less authentic to me,  though it doesn't make it any less special of a photograph.   With this set up, you could put someone with no skill sitting near by with the trigger who's told 'just push that button whenever someone shoots on goal and hold it down!"...

That's probably the direction many things are going.. but I don't have to like it.. do I?
